Seven Quick Takes

Did you see? I’ve got a new book & reading blog called The Deliberate Reader. I’d love to have you join me over there!

The girl has made friends with the neighbors. Well, technically I guess she’s really mostly friends with the neighbors dog. They’ve got an invisible fence, so the dog is often in their front yard/driveway. If H sees the dog outside, she is determined that she needs to go over and say hello. And if I don’t prevent it, she will walk herself down the driveway, across the street and over to their house.

Fortunately the dog is friendly, and it’s a very quiet cul-de-sac, so H hasn’t gotten into too much trouble. It would still possibly be nice if the girl wasn’t quite so fearless, because she’s going to give me a heart attack one of these days – it’s amazing to me that I didn’t have one when I discovered her in the middle of the street trotting along headed over to see the dog.

I feel like it’s probably fairly safe to officially claim that potty training has been a success. So I feel like it’s also probably time to move on to the next child-related project. To make it sound all official I should give it a name like the military does for their operations. Perhaps something like Operation: GetThemToEatSomeVeggies2012. Catchy, no?

I am feverishly working on my “31 Days of Great Nonfiction Reads” series for the new blog in October. Why so worried about it when {theoretically} I would only need to write one post a day, so it’s not like I need all the content ready to go on October 1.

I’m trying to get it all written in advance because I know that life happens, and if it’s ready to go then if my kiddos get sick, or if Mr. SJ ends up working obscene hours, or if (perish the thought) I get sick, the series is still set to run. I don’t want to promise something (like a 31-Day series) and then fizzle out because life got in the way.

Plus I’ve got a little conference thing that I’m going to in October so that’s a few days that I won’t be doing any blog writing. Plus a few days afterwards that I’m not likely to be writing anything because my kids will probably be wanting my attention. And Mr. SJ will probably be wanting a break from the kids since he’ll have had them nonstop while I’m off having a good time at the conference.

I am just slightly worried about how they’re all going to do with me gone. Not that he can’t take care of the kids, but they can be INTENSE. And CLINGY. And WHINY. And I-NEED-MOMMA-NOW. Plus, the whole baby girl is still nursing thing. I’m trying to scope out the session plans and all that to see when are any potential pockets of time I can sneak home and nurse (& give the hubs a breather for a tiny bit.)

Except I don’t want to miss anything!

It’s probably time for me to start thinking about planting some bulbs. Even if it’s not time to plant them just yet, if I don’t start figuring out what I want where, I’ll turn around & it’ll be Thanksgiving and I’ll have missed the planting window.

Basically it all just boils down to the fact that I need some tulips that I’ll be able to see from the windows.

Apparently I am QT’d out. I got nothing.
